Despite heroic efforts from passersby, 2 women die after being hit by speeding driver

FAR SOUTH BEXAR COUNTY, Texas - Several passersby did all they could but couldn't save two women who died in a major car accident along a South Side highway. The deadly accident happened around 6 p.m. Monday along State Highway 16 South near Smith Road in Far South Bexar County.

A witness told the Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputies that the driver of a 2023 Lexus was weaving in and out of traffic and was going really fast when the car passed him. But the witness said the Lexus driver couldn't avoid hitting a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage, crashing into the vehicle's passenger side. The force of the impact flipped the victim's vehicle over onto its roof.

Several people passing by stopped and immediately ran to help the two victims in the 2017 Mitsubishi. When paramedics arrived, they took over and said they "exhausted all life saving measures" but the two women were pronounced dead at the scene. The 40-year-old driver of the Lexus survived.

Police said they are still investigating, but he could face charges from this deadly crash.
