Devastated family pay tribute to ‘loved mum’ killed in crash

A devastated family has paid tribute to a “loved mum” who died in a crash outside a hospital. Cheshire Police[1] were called to Liverpool Road, outside the Countess of Chester hospital, at 10.46am on Sunday, November 5, following reports of a crash. Once officers arrived at the scene they found two cars had collided at the traffic lights near Vivienne Smith Lane.

Police confirmed a 57-year-old woman was taken to hospital but died a short time later. The woman has now been named as Jane Hickson.

Following the crash a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Cheshire Police have now confirmed Paul Wright, of Westenra Avenue, Ellesmere Port[4], has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and on suspicion of a further two offences of drug driving from earlier in the year. Jane’s devastated family released a heartbreaking tribute to her through Cheshire Police on Wednesday, November 22. They said: “Jane was fun loving and highly sociable and lived her life to the fullest.

A devoted wife to John, and loving mother to Olivia and Patrick, daughter to Jean & Derek and sister to Tracy. “She was very well known and loved across the community of Upton[5] and the Chester area. She had worked in the fitness industry locally for 35 years and based her Fitness & Pilates business here.

“Jane was also involved in many other community-based groups like Scouts, School, and WI. She always gave more to these organisations than she took out. Her family and wide circle of friends are devastated by her tragic loss.”
