Disruption to Gloucester Rugby fans and Christmas shoppers as pro-Palestine protests due

Anyone heading to see a rugby match in Gloucester[1] or do some shopping at the Christmas market[2] this Saturday (November 25) is likely to face disruption as protestors take to the city’s streets. Police are closing roads across the city centre to manage the protest. On Saturday, Gloucester residents will be marching to King’s Square in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have faced more than a month of aerial bombardment that has killed around 14,000, following the October 7 Hamas terror attack on Israel.

To facilitate the protest, 10 roads from Westgate to Kingsholm will face temporary closures. The roads will be closed for the duration of the march, which will take place from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Fans headed to see Gloucester Rugby face off[3] against Leicester Tigers, which kicks off at 2.30pm, can expect some serious traffic disruption getting to the match.

Meanwhile, anyone headed to the Christmas markets at Gloucester Quays on Saturday afternoon can expect difficulty driving directly to the quays, as many of the roads surrounding it will be closed. Drivers will need to park further away or expect long diversions. The road closures cover much of the city centre to the Docks.

The closed roads: The Oxebode, Westgate Street, the A4301 from Westgate Street to Commercial Road, Commercial Road, the A4301 from Commercial Road to the crossroads with St Ann Way, Bristol Road and Trier Way.

Also closed: Trier Way from the crossroads with St Ann Way, Bristol Road and the A4301 to the A430, Bruton Way from the A430 to Black Dog Way, Black Dog Way from Bruton Way to Gouda Way, Gouda Way from Black Dog Way to Priory Road, St Oswolds Way from Priory Road to the A417/A4301.
