‘Dog walker’ charged after ‘police officer attacked’ at scene of fatal Wolverhampton crash
A 'dog walker' has been charged after a police officer was attacked at the scene of a five-vehicle Black Country[1] crash where two women died. A cordon was in place in Millfields Road in Ettingshall, Wolverhampton[2], following the horror crash on Saturday, November 25, where two women aged 76 and 82 died. Three more people - all men from in the same vehicle - were taken to hospital, with a 90-year-old in a serious condition and a 78 and 79-year-old in a stable condition.
A 51-year-old man, from a separate vehicle, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He has since been released under investigation. But while the cordon was a place a man said to be walking his dog on Sunday (November 26) is alleged to have 'punched' a police officer and 'set his dog' on them according to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, by Chief Inspector Chris Grandison.
Lee Potts from Bilston has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and being drunk and disorderly in a public place. The 39-year-old has been bailed to appear before Dudley[4] Magistrates Court on 19 December. A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police[5] said: "A man has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker after a police officer was assaulted on Millfields Road, Wolverhampton on Sunday (November 26).
"The 39-year-old was arrested after trying to breach a cordon that had been put in place following a fatal collision on the road.
The man was released on bail to appear before Wolverhampton Magistrates court on 19 December."
