Driver in life-threatening condition after hitting lorry on A42
A driver is being treated for life-threatening injuries after hitting a parked lorry on the A42[1] this morning. The A42 southbound is still closed between junctions 12 and 11, near Measham[2] and Appleby Magna, following the crash. A white BMW X3 hit an HGV lorry parked into a layby on the southbound carriageway of the A42. Leicestershire Police[3] received the report just before 5am.
The driver of the BMW has since been taken to Queen's Medical Centre, in Nottingham. Nobody else was hurt in the crash. A diversion route has been put in place, but anyone aiming to travel in this direction is asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
If you witnessed the crash and have not yet spoken to police about what you saw, you are being asked to get in touch.
You can do this by contacting 101 and quoting incident 68 of November 29, or you can report it via the police website.
