Driver ‘unhurt’ despite car flipping onto roof in Rochdale smash

A driver is said to be unhurt after a car flipped onto its roof in Rochdale[1] town centre this afternoon (November 20). The car was involved in a collision and ended upside down, emergency services said. Police have since confirmed that it was a 'damage only' crash.

Both cops and firefighters scrambled to the scene shortly before 5pm. Two fire engines were present, GMFRS said.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) added in a statement: "At around quarter to 5pm (Monday, 20 November), two fire engines from Rochdale and the Technical Response Unit from Leigh were called to attend Yorkshire Street, Rochdale in response to reports of a road traffic collision which involved one overturned vehicle.

"Crews arrived quickly at the scene and worked with North West Ambulance Service to assess the one male passenger who was out of the car prior to the crews' arrival. Firefighters made the scene safe before departing after approximately 45 minutes." Greater Manchester Police[4] have also confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that its serious collision investigation unit are not probing the incident.

It's understood traffic returned to normal later on Monday evening.
