Emergency crews race to Glasgow street as road blocked after late-night incident

A GLASGOW street was locked down after a late-night fire in a block of flats. Police[1], ambulance[2] and the fire service[3] were on the scene at the city[4]'s Shettleston Road around 12.10am this morning.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene where they extinguished a fire in a shared close within a block of flats. A number of residents were evacuated and three people were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

One person was given a precautionary check-up at the scene. Police confirmed enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire.

Photos from the scene show three fire rigs parked on the road as a police car blocks cars from accessing the area. Firefighters were spotted retrieving equipment from one of the trucks after they arrived at the scene.

Multiple police officers were also seen speaking to the fire service and the incident. An ambulance truck and an ambulance van were parked at the side of the road.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.20am on Wednesday, 29 November, police were called to a report of a fire at a block of flats in Shettleston Road, Glasgow "Officers attended to assist and a number of residents were evacuated. "Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 00:13 to attend an incident on Shettleston Road, Glasgow. "An ambulance and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene and three patients were transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary." A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 00.10am on Wednesday, 29 November to reports of a dwelling fire in Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city's Shettleston Road, where firefighters extinguished a fire within a common close area.

"Two casualties were transferred by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for further treatment.

"One additional casualty received a precautionary checkup at the scene.

"Crews left the scene after ensuring the area had been made safe."
