Ettingshall: Arrests as two killed and three injured in five-car crash

A man has been arrested after two women died and three people were injured in a five-car crash. Emergency services went to Millfields Road in Ettingshall, Wolverhampton, at 15:37 GMT on Saturday. Two women, aged 82 and 76, died at the scene and three people from the same vehicle were taken to the hospital, police said.

A 51-year-old man from a separate vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He has been released under investigation, police said.

‘Particularly sad’

A 90-year-old man remains in a serious condition, while two men aged 79 and 78 are stable, the force added. Det Sgt Paul Hughes said: “This is a particularly sad set of circumstances and our thoughts go out to all of the families affected.

“This collision involved five vehicles and it’s important that we piece together what happened in order to provide all those involved the answers they deserve.” He urged people not to speculate on the circumstances of the crash, and asked anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash and who may have dashcam footage of what happened, to come forward.
