Evington Road: Group who saw Leicester shooting urged to come forward

Forensic officers were seen at the scene Detectives investigating the shooting of two men have urged three potential witnesses to come forward. Leicestershire Police said the shooting happened on Evington Road at about 23:20 GMT on Wednesday.

One man remains in a serious condition while the other’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Three people were seen on the corner of Evington Road and Chepstow Road when the shots were fired and then ran into a nearby store, said the force. They are being sought as witnesses and are not believed to be involved in the shooting, police added.

Police cordoned off a part of Evington Road in Leicester on Thursday Detectives said they also want to speak to the driver of a “white saloon vehicle”, thought to be an Audi. The car passed another vehicle traveling past the scene at 23:19 GMT when the shots were fired.

Detectives are continuing to go over CCTV close to the scene and officers were seen searching a stretch of Evington Road within a police cordon on Thursday.

Police officers carried out searches on Thursday Det Insp Hazel Sandall said: “These people may well have crucial information about the incident so I would urge them to make contact and pass on what they saw or heard.

“I am keen to stress these people are potential witnesses and not believed to be involved in the incident. “Should they be concerned about speaking to us, they can pass on information via Crimestoppers if they wish.” Follow BBC East Midlands on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram.
