Family’s tribute to ‘fiercely competitive’ teenager after tragic death in Shelf crash
The family of a ‘fun loving and energetic’ 18-year-old have paid tribute after he became the second victim of a car crash at the end of October. Police are continuing to investigate the crash[1] which happened on October 20 on Brow Lane in Shelf[2], between Bradford and Halifax. Emergency services were called to the scene at 11.17pm where it was found that a white Seat Ibiza had hit a wall.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics,[3] the 19-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Toby Barraclough, aged 18, was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Four other passengers in the vehicle at the time were treated for injuries.
West Yorkshire Police have today confirmed that Toby sadly died as a result of his injuries on November 12. Toby’s family have paid tribute to their loved one. In a statement they said: “Toby was a fun loving, energetic, fiercely competitive sporty young man.
“He was loved by so many people and his family will miss him so much. He would however want everybody close to him to live their lives to the full, with him in their hearts.” Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone who was driving in the area or lives in the vicinity of Halifax Road and Brow Lane to check their dashcam or CCTV for any relevant footage that could assist with the investigation.
