Fire crews criticise parking which blocked them reaching person at …

Fire crews have lashed out at irresponsible parking which prevented them from reaching an at risk person. The message is the second in three months from Eastern Fire Station[1] who have warned of the consequences of problem parking. The latest message was issued by fire crews on Friday, November 24, as they responded to reports of a person’s life being at risk.

However, in a statement, Eastern Fire Station revealed that it could not directly reach the scene of the incident due to parked cars in the way. The fire crew shared several images of the parking which had blocked their way, and said firefighters could not reach the scene in their vehicle because, “unfortunately, approx 100 metres away from the property, we were faced with this scene and the trucks could not proceed”. The location in which the issue occurred has not been released.

It was the second time in three months that Eastern Fire Station issued such a message. In September, fire crews revealed problematic parking had meant they were “severely delayed”[3] in responding to 999 calls. The fire service has called for more “common sense” from drivers on narrow roads, urging them to think where they park, reiterating the message that “every second counts” on 999 calls.

A spokesperson said Friday’s incident was ultimately determined to be a false alarm, but added: “Next time, it might not.”
