Five-vehicle M11 crash leaves driver injured and motorway closed for several hours

An injured driver was rescued from his vehicle by firefighters, as a five-vehicle crash left the M11 closed between Duxford and Stansted Airport[1] on Tuesday, November 7. Essex Police and National Highways traffic officers attended the incident on the southbound carriageway. An Essex Police spokesperson said: "We were notified of a collision on M11, between junction 9 to junction 8, at around 6.25am on November 7.

Five vehicles were involved: three HGVs and 2 light goods vehicles (LGVs). "The driver of an LGV was removed from the vehicle by colleagues in the fire service and sustained only minor injuries. The road was closed whilst vehicle recovery took place."

The incident caused 45-minute delays and five miles of congestion, as traffic was diverted[4]. National Highways[5] reported that all lanes had been reopened at around 10.16am on November 7.
