Grays man charged with murder of Ashton Rowbotham
Ashton Rowbotham died on 6 October 2023 in Essex A man has been charged with murder after a 19-year-old man died during what police called a disturbance last month. Essex Police officers were called to an address near New Road, in Grays, shortly after 03:40 GMT on 6 October.
Ashton Rowbotham, 19, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Connor Knight, 21, of New Road, has been charged with his murder and is due at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. Det Ch Insp Greg Wood, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said it was a “significant step forward” in the inquiry.
“The work of the investigation team does not stop here and we continue to work thoroughly and tirelessly to piece together the circumstances around Ashton’s death,” he said. Mr Rowbotham’s parents paid tribute to their son. In a statement, they said: “Our heart is breaking.
You are loved so much. You will always be with us.” Four people were arrested in October – one on suspicion of murder and the other three on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
