Grimsby man who died in A180 tragedy named as inquest opens

A Grimsby man has been named as the victim of a tragic incident on the A180, an inquest has heard. Karl Wright, 35, sadly died after colliding with a lorry under the overpass of the A1173 on the eastbound carriageway. Humberside Police[1] were called to reports of an incident at 2.30am on Monday, 23 October, closing both lanes whilst they carried out their enquiries. The Westbound carriageway was reopened at around midday with the Eastbound carriageway being opened a few hours later that day.

Now, the inquest into his death has been opened. Assistant Coroner[2] Jane Eatock confirmed his name, age and address and that the computer designer was identified at the scene by CSI officers before a post mortem was carried out. Outlining the cause of death, the coroner said: "The main cause of death was head and chest injuries due to a road traffic collision." The full inquest has now be adjourned until Tuesday, 23 April, 2024.

At the time, Humberside Police said: "Officers are appealing for information after a man sustained fatal injuries in a collision on the A180[3], Immingham, near to the junction at Stallingborough, in the early hours of this morning (Monday 23 October). "We were called at around 2.30am to reports that a lorry and pedestrian were involved in a collision. Emergency services attended however a 35-year-old man sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

"His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist trained officers.

We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, has any information or dashcam footage, or saw the vehicle prior to the collision, to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 32 of 23 October."
