‘Heavy’ delays after tourist strip crash

The driver of a luxury Chevrolet Corvette is speaking to police following a multi-car pileup along one of Bondi’s busiest roads, which has caused “heavy delays” and left two injured. Bondi Rd in Bondi was sent into a scramble on Sunday after ambulance crews flocked to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash. The luxury Corvette was involved in the prang, along with a motorbike, Subaru station wagon, Volkswagen hatchback and Land Rover 4WD.

A motorbike rider was injured during the multi-car pileup. Picture: Supplied Ambulance crews treated a 36-year-old male motorbike rider for leg injuries at the scene before he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.
The driver of the Subaru, a 60-year-old man was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for further treatment. Both men are in a stable condition.

The driver of the Corvette, a 36-year-old man has been taken to Waverley Police Station to assist police with their inquires. He returned a negative breath test at the scene. In a statement, Traffic NSW said Bondi Road had reopened in both directions at Bondi after an earlier two-car crash near Dudley Street.
“Bondi Road had been closed between Dudley Street and Glen Street,” the statement reads. “Traffic is heavier than usual, but should return to normal now that all lanes are open. “Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.
“As well, route 333 and 380 buses are using Bondi Road again after diverting earlier. Bondi Rd was earlier closed between Dudley and Glen streets, with motorists urged to avoid the area due to heavy traffic congestion. “Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as traffic in the area is heavy,” the statement reads.

Any motorists caught up in the crash zone are urged to use caution and follow the directions of onsite emergency and traffic crews.
