Hello, Ann Arbor: Wolverine sign-stealing saga; Dexter woman killed in crash

It was a game of chicken.

And in the end, Michigan dodged first.

When the 10-0 Wolverines take the field against Maryland on Saturday, Coach Jim Harbaugh will not be on the sidelines.

On Thursday, with a court hearing looming Friday morning, the Wolverines accepted Harbaugh's 3-game[1] suspension and the Big Ten agreed to end its investigation into the sign-stealing allegations.

I don't need to explain the background of this story. You all know. It's all anyone in Ann Arbor -- and perhaps across the nation -- has been talking about for the past couple of weeks.

The spectacle has transcended the alleged infractions. It's had dashes of all kinds of drama. The alleged cheating, endless media coverage, speculation, disguises and, yes, chickens.[2]

In more tragic news this week, a 55-year-old Dexter woman was killed in a terrible crash[3] on Dexter-Ann Arbor Road in Scio Township on Monday.

Police on Thursday identified her as Meribeth Gandy Pezda, a social worker. Our thoughts are with her family.
