Huge 10-mile queues on M6 after traffic stopped following lorry crash
Queues tailed back for miles on part of the M6 following a lorry crash. All traffic was stopped on the southbound carriageway between junctions 28 at Leyland and 27 at Wigan[1]. National Highways says traffic officers were working at the scene.
There were queues of 10 miles approaching Greater Manchester. A spokesperson for National Highways North West posted on X (formerly Twitter) earlier: "Traffic is now stopped on the #M6 southbound between J28 #Leyland #Chorley and J27 #Wigan following a collision involving a lorry. Traffic Officers are working at scene.
"There are 5 miles of congestion causing 60 min delays above normal travel time." All lanes have since reopened. Lancashire Police confirmed the crash to be damage-only. This is a live event.
