Huge delays on M6 after crash with 7 miles of queues

Huge delays are disrupting motorists[1] on the M6 this morning following a crash. Three lanes were closed to drivers between J10, Walsall[2], and J10a, for the M54[3]. The smash has caused 70 minutes of delays to motorists during rush hour, with an estimated seven miles of congestion.

National Highways tweeted at 9.38am to say the smash had taken place. Warning motorists, National Highways West Midlands said on X/Twitter: “The M6 northbound between J10 (Walsall) and J10A (M54), 3 lanes (of 4) are closed due to a collision. There is currently approx.

6.5 miles of congestion on approach, causing delays of 60 minutes above usual journey times.”

It later added: “All lanes have now reopened on the M6 northbound between J10 (Walsall) and J10A (M54) following the earlier collision. There is still approx 7 miles of congestion on approach, causing residual delays of 70 minutes above usual journey times.”

Traffic monitoring website Inrix has also reported ‘severe delays’ due to the accident between J10 and J10a.

The monitoring service said queues stretched back to J8, which is the interchange for the M5.

Live images from motorway cameras showed queues on traffic on both sides of the motorway between J8, for the M5, and J9, Wednesbury.
