Inquest into death of dad killed with two children on A5 opens
An inquest into the death of a father killed alongside his two children[1] in a crash near Hinckley has opened. Alomgir Hussain died in a collision involving two vehicles on the A5 Watling Street in Burbage, near Hinckley, at around 4.30pm on Friday, September 8. The inquest, which was opened at Leicester Town Hall[2] yesterday, heard the incident involved a car being driven by Mr Hussain and an HGV.
Mr Hussain, a 36-year-old chef from Walsall, was pronounced dead at the scene[3]. His nine-year-old son was also declared dead by paramedics, who attended the scene from both West Midlands and East Midlands Ambulance Services, alongside police and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. Mr Hussain’s four-year-old daughter was pronounced dead at hospital a short time after the crash.
Mr Hussain’s pregnant wife was also a passenger in the car, but survived and was left in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the HGV was treated at the scene. He was given self-care advice and subsequently discharged by paramedics.

The inquest, presided over by coroner Professor Catherine Mason, only focused on Mr Hussain’s death.
A cause of death was not given during the short hearing. In the wake of the crash, a fund-raiser set up to raise money for the charity Sadaqah Jariyah was created. The initiative aims to build water pumps and wells around the world.
It has so far raised more than GBP20,000[5].
Inquiries into the collision are ongoing.
Professor Mason adjourned the inquest to a later date, pending further investigations.
