Kensington crash leads to DWI arrest, road closed for hours
KENSINGTON — A single-vehicle accident on Amesbury Road led to the arrest of a New Hampshire woman for driving while intoxicated Tuesday evening. The Kensington Police & Fire Department responded to the crash at 6:52 p.m. after reports that the vehicle was driving erratically before it collided with a tree at 150 Amesbury Road. The 39-year-old female driver from Hampton was transported to Exeter Hospital for evaluation.
Authorities say the woman admitted to consuming two bottles of wine and huffing a cleaning agent prior to the accident. Following her treatment, she was arrested on charges of DWI. The impact of the collision caused significant damage to the tree, prompting concerns over its stability and the safety of nearby power lines.
As a precaution, Amesbury Road was closed for about five hours while Unitil Energy personnel worked to trim the tree and secure the area.
The Kensington Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
