Kingswood murder investigation: Thousands raised after shock death of mum-of-four
The death of a “devoted and caring” Kingswood[1] mother-of-four has sparked an outpouring of grief from the local community. More than GBP10,000 has been raised in a collection for Alison Bowen’s children following her death last Monday (November 20). The 41-year-old died after an incident at her Wedmore Close home.
Darryl Bowen, 43, has been charged with her murder and has been remanded in custody. Alison’s family, who are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers, have released a tribute[2] saying: “Alison was a devoted and caring daughter, sister, wife, and mother to four very much loved children. They are appreciated by all who know them.
“For several years she headed up a small independent Christian school, and then a home educators’ hub for local families. She helped them bring up, and educate their children themselves in a way similar to the values she held so dearly. “Alison always radiated a very loving, encouraging, and positive nature not only to everyone who knew her, but also to all who crossed her path.
She never had a bad word to say about anyone, and always went out of her way to help everyone who needed her. “To quote a friend who is now working abroad, ‘she was always honouring to other people’. “She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and those who worked alongside her, and also by the wider community that she touched so deeply.”
Alison’s sister also issued her own tribute through police, saying: “Alison was a wonderful sister, a loving and dedicated mother. We cannot even describe our loss, that she has been stolen from us like this.” In the wake of Alison’s death, friend Sylvana Ashley set up an online collection to help support her children.
Within three days around 150 people had pledged in excess of GBP10,000. Sylvana said: “In honour of the tragic passing of a very special mother, friend, and wife we would like to raise funds for Alison’s four children. These funds will go towards supporting and assisting her children as they come to terms with the loss of their mother.
Alison lived a life full of joy and enthusiasm for Jesus, her family, her church community and her friends. She will be dearly missed.” Last night a two-hour service was due to take place at Carmel City Church in Brislington[5], where Alison was a much-loved member of the community.
A post on its Facebook[6] page said: “Please join us this Sunday evening as we take time to reflect and pray for Alison Bowen, family and friends.” Following Alison’s death, Avon and Somerset Police[7] revealed it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct in relation to its “organisational response”. An IOPC spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we received a referral from Avon and Somerset Police in relation to the death of a woman in Kingswood[8], Bristol, on November 20.
We will assess the referral and ascertain what further action may be required by us.”
