Live as crash on M62 Ainley Top at Huddersfield causing traffic gridlock

There are long delays on the M62 westbound near Huddersfield this afternoon after a crash has partially blocked the carriageway. The westbound carriageway of the motorway[1] is partially blocked in the area between Junction 24 Ainley Top[2] and Junction 23 New Hey Road. The crash was first reported on traffic and travel[3] service Inrix shortly before 3pm.

The AA reports delays of 28 minutes and increasing in the area around the crash. Traffic maps from the area show delays for westbound motorists all the way back beyond Junction 25. A report from Inrix said: “M62 Westbound partially blocked, heavy traffic due to accident from J24 A629 (Ainley Top) to J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).”

A traffic report from the AA said: “Severe delays of 28 minutes and delays increasing on M62 Westbound in West Yorkshire.

Average speed ten mph.”
