Live M6 updates as multi-vehicle rush-hour smash causes gridlock

All traffic is being held northbound on the M6 after a multi-vehicle rush-hour crash. The crash happened around 4.45pm between junction 17 for Crewe and junction 18 for Holmes Chapel. Traffic camera images show a car perpendicular to the carriageway, another facing the wrong way, and an HGV at the scene.

Further up the M6, cameras show traffic backed-up bumper to bumper. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports: “All traffic being temporarily held due to multi-vehicle accident on M6 Northbound from J17 A534 Old Mill Road ( Sandbach / Crewe) to J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel).” This is a live blog.
