Live updates as ‘serious incident’ shuts country lane

A country lane in the north east of the county has been closed by Leicestershire Police[1] after a “serious incident”. The force said Highgate Road in Plungar, near Bottesford, was expected to remain shut for a “considerable time”. No further details about the incident have been released.

The police said in a tweet just after 4pm today: “*TRAFFIC UPDATE** |16:06| Road closure – Highgate Road Plungar is closed completely due to a serious incident. The road will remain closed for a considerable time, please find an alternative route. Thank you for your patience.”

The incident is the fourth to cause road closures around Leicestershire today.

At about 8am two schoolgirls were injured in a collision[2] in Melton, a car came off the A511[3] near Markfield and another crash closed a crossroads near Beacon Hill[4] after a car and a lorry collided.

Updates on the incident will be posted below as we have them
