M4 accident and car fire cause long delays for motorists

An accident caused long delays on the M4 near Newport this morning. There was also a car fire on the motorway near Neath Port Talbot. Traffic monitors are showing that the accident had blocked one lane on the eastbound carriageway between junction 24 Coldra and junction 23A Magor services.

All lanes re-opened by 7.25am but congestion remains back to junction 28 Tredegar Park and travel time was 40 minutes for most of the morning rush hour. In the other incident, a vehicle fire closed one lane between junction 38 Margam and junction 40 Port Talbot. All lanes re-opened just before 7.45am but delays remained in the area during the rush hour.

By 8.50am, traffic monitors showed that only “residual” delays remained in both areas.
