M5, traffic and weather updates as Met Office gives verdict on UK ‘snow bomb’ reports

A mixed and varied bag of weather[1] is in store for Gloucestershire this week while the UK as a whole braces for some colder conditions and the chance of some wintry conditions as we move from November into December. There have been reports about a huge 'snow bomb' for Britain, but that is not appearing in Met Office forecasts. Today (Monday, November 20), Gloucestershire is set for some heavy rain first thing and possibly some fog in the Cotswolds[2].

There could then be some sunny intervals until more rain in the afternoon and early evening - highs of 10C and lows of 7C. It's all a bit samey for the rest of the week with cloudy and overcast conditions, buy mainly dry. Temperature highs of 13C but overnight lows down to 2C at the weekend.

A similar pattern for the West Country[3] this week with some heavy showers and strong coastal winds easing by Tuesday. That chillier weather arrives on Friday, when weather conditions will be brighter. For snow-watchers, looking from Friday (November 24) to Sunday, December 3, the Met Office[4] is saying there could be some wintry showers and overnight frost.

This is due to 'cold air' incursions. But it's unclear when they will occur and how extensive they will be. Below, we'll bring you the latest weather forecasts and traffic updates.

Will be keeping a close eye on the M5 and other major roads in the county and beyond.
