M53: Traffic at ‘standstill’ after crash at Junction 1 of M53
At 8.20am this morning, Tuesday, officers received reports that a white Fiat Punto had crashed into a barrier at Junction 1 of the M53 southbound. Traffic feed INRIX confirmed the road was blocked for more than an hour. A recent update says: “Sensors show traffic is getting past the incident after being blocked for an hour and 20 minutes.”
Merseyside Police has confirmed that the driver, a woman in her 20s, sustained a minor injury to face. A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service added: “Crews were alerted at 8.21am and two fire engines and the search and rescue team arrived on scene at 8.27am. “This was one vehicle, on all four wheels, blocking both lanes of the carriage way.
The one occupant of the vehicle was conscious and breathing and initially assessed by Fire Service crews prior to North West Ambulance Service attendance. “Crews then made the vehicle safe, the two lane carriage was closed off and the occupant of the vehicle conveyed to hospital by Paramedics. “The vehicle was then moved to the inside lane, prior to moving the vehicle to a safer position and the incident was handed over to Merseyside Police.
“Crews left the scene at 9.28am.”
