M6 crash sees woman and teenage girl rushed to hospital
A woman and teenage girl are in hospital following a 'serious collision' which has shut the M6. Emergency services had descended on the southbound carriageway just before 2.45am this morning to reports of a crash between two lorries and a car. Now West Midlands Ambulance Service[1] say the female driver of the car has suffered 'potentially life-threatening injuries' while the teenage passenger has sustained 'serious injuries' and received 'advanced trauma care' at the scene.
Meanwhile the southbound section around Junction 12 remains closed this morning as collision investigators with Staffordshire Police[2] remain on the stretch. Meanwhile National Highways say they are working to ease congestion in the area - but have confirmed the route is shut between Junctions 13 and 12. Traffic officers have also been called in to remove those motorists caught up directly behind the collision scene.

A spokeswoman said: "Upon arrival we found a woman and a teenage girl who were the driver of and a passenger in the car. "The woman was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries. She received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene and was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment under emergency blue light conditions."
"The teenage girl was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained serious injuries. Ambulance staff administered advanced trauma care at the scene before she was conveyed to Birmingham Children's Hospital for further treatment under emergency blue light conditions. "No further patients required treatment."
National Highways are encouraging motorists to give themselves extra time with a diversion in place. Paul Lawrence, duty operations manager, said: "We'd like to thank motorists for their patience while we deal with this incident this morning. "Our traffic officers are currently at scene and are working hard to remove traffic from the carriageway caught up in congestion behind the closure.
For those travelling through Staffordshire this morning, we have put a diversion route in place and we'd encourage motorists to leave additional time for their journeys."
Diversion route

- Then join the A449 southbound and continue to the A5 junction at Gailey.
