M80 closed after car bursts into flames following crash as crews rush to scene

The M80 near Cumbernauld[1] has been closed after a car burst into flames following a collision. Emergency services[2] rushed to the northbound carriageway near junction six at around 5.30pm following reports of a two-vehicle crash. Images from the scene show one vehicle in flames in the right hand lane of the motorway.[3]

There are no reported injuries at this time. Fire crews remain at the scene. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Spokesperson said: “We received a call at 17.52 today.

Two appliances were mobilised to the scene. “They are still in attendance.” A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are in attendance at a two-vehicle road crash northbound on the M8 before J6, Cumbernauld.

The incident was reported to police around 5.30pm on Monday, 27 November 2023. “One vehicle caught fire but this has been extinguished. No reports of any injuries at this time.

“The road is closed north and sound bound until further notice.”
