Man and woman suffer ‘major trauma-related injuries’ in M6 crash

A man and a woman suffered 'major trauma-related injuries' in a crash on the M6 yesterday. The smash happened on the northbound stretch of the motorway[1] at junction 23 near Golborne at around 12.30pm on Thursday (November 2). It involved two HGVs and a car, motorway police said.
Traffic officers fully closed off the northbound side for several hours and temporarily held traffic on the southbound side as the air ambulance landed on the scene. Police, fire crews and paramedics also responded.
A man and a woman were 'extracted' from a car, a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said in an update issued today (Friday).
They were both taken to hospital from the scene - one by road and one in the air ambulance. Both suffered 'major trauma-related injuries'. A spokesperson for NWAS said: "A man and woman were extracted from a car with the assistance of the fire service and taken to hospital.
"They both suffered major trauma-related injuries. One was taken to Aintree Hospital by road, and the other by helicopter." The motorway was fully reopened by around 5pm.
