Man cooks up story of wife being shot at on bridge

Vadodara: A man who tried to cook up a story about a firearm attack on his wife by two bike-borne men on Sunday night was arrested after investigations revealed that the incident had taken place in their house.It had come to light that the man owned the country-made gun which had led to the incident.The city police launched a probe after being informed by a private hospital regarding a woman Komal Kaur (20) being shot at.The woman was rushed to the hospital for treatment for a gunshot injury to her eye. A bullet was recovered after surgery and the woman's condition is critical.Her husband Jaysingh Sikligar, a resident of Santoshwadi in the Danteshwar area, and his family members had claimed that the couple had gone to have lassi at an outlet near the Vihar Talkies. They claimed they were returning home when two unidentified assailants came on a motorcycle and shot at Jaysingh at around 11pm on the Pratapnagar bridge.

They ended up injuring Komal Kaur instead.The police grew suspicious due to the behavior of the man and checked CCTV footage in the area. Unable to find any evidence supporting Jaysingh's claim, the police went to his house and checked. They found blood marks and an empty cartridge in the couple's bedroom.

Forensic experts were also roped in during the search.Jaysingh produced the firearm when confronted by the police. "He has, however, claimed that the incident took place when his wife was playing with the gun. We are conducting further investigation to ascertain if he is telling the truth," said Makarpura police inspector JN Parmar who is probing the incident.The crime branch has also joined the investigations.An offence was registered by the Makarpura police on Monday. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has initiated an investigation into the incident in Dagenham. The man made a distress call from a property in Weston Green, and despite attempts to communicate with him, shots were fired by an officer when he left the property. The IOPC mentioned that firearms were found near the man and inside the property.
