The man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital.

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner in due course. The motorway was closed in both directions between Junction 28 (Leyland[11]) and Junction 27 for several hours to allow for investigation work to be carried out - It has since been re-opened. Temporary Sergeant Martin Wilcock, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident which has resulted in a man losing his life and my thoughts are with all those impacted by it."
