Man escapes by inches as Merc ploughs into Hanford tip
A man taking rubbish to the tip came within inches of being ploughed into by a car as it smashed into a container at a Stoke-on-Trent tip. The visitor was carrying a board to one of the skips at Hanford Household Waste Recycling Centre[1] when the grey Mercedes ploughed into railings on the other side of the walkway he was using. Less than a second earlier, he was in the exact spot that the car drove through the walkway bollards.
As of Monday, November 20, driver was 'helping police with their enquiries'. And now officers are appealing for witnesses - especially those with dashcam footage of the crash. Stoke-on-Trent City Council runs the tip.
A Staffordshire Police[4] spokesperson said: "We were called to a recycling centre on Sideway, Stoke-on-Trent, at 9.30am on Saturday (18 November), following reports of a non-stop collision. A silver Mercedes collided with a barrier inside the complex on Sideway. "Thankfully, no-one was injured.
The driver of the car is helping with inquiries and the car has since been recovered. "We are keen to speak to anyone with any information, particularly those with dashcam footage from the area at the time. Call us on 101, quoting incident 384 of 18 November, or message us using Live Chat on our website.
To report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111." Councillor Amjid Wazir, cabinet member for city pride, enforcement, and sustainability, said: "Fortunately, no one was injured at the incident at Hanford Household Waste Recycling Centre on Saturday. The driver of the vehicle has been fully compliant with both ourselves and Staffordshire Police and we will continue working with the police as part of the investigation."
