Man killed in horror crash on A6

A pensioner has died after being struck by a vehicle off the A6 in Stockport[1]. Greater Manchester Police[2] was called out to reports of a crash on Buxton Road at around 11.35am yesterday (November 9). The force says a vehicle which was travelling south-east along Buxton Road mounted the pavement on its nearside. It then collided with a pedestrian, a 77-year-old man, near to junction of Fence Street.

He was taken to hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries. GMP says that following the collision, the vehicle re-joined the A6. It was then followed for a short distance by another driver, whose vehicle collided with the first car on London Road[3], at the junction of Mill Street.

The Manchester Evening News understands this led to the vehicle which struck the pedestrian hitting a lamppost. Pictures from the scene showed a white car smashed into a lamppost yesterday. The driver of the first vehicle, a 29-year-old man, was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody today (Friday) while the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them quoting log 1288 of November 9, 2023.

Information can also be reported online at www.gmp.police.uk[6], by calling 101, or shared anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
