Man killed when car hit bus stop in Leeds named by police

A man who tragically died after a car hit a bus stop in Leeds has been named by police. Terence Russell, known as Terry, was killed when a black Mitsubishi Shogun ploughed into a bus stop[1] on Stanningley Road at 3.13pm on Monday (November 20). His close friend, Joanne, has now paid tribute to the 62-year-old by saying: “Goodnight and god bless, rest in peace Tezza.

You’re loved very much.” Police arrested the driver of the Shogun on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he has since been bailed pending further enquiries. The 57-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs, for which no further action will be taken.

Two other pedestrians were treated for minor injuries following the incident. West Yorkshire Police[3] are continuing to appeal for anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage of the crash to come forward. Officers are also keen to hear from anyone with footage of the Shogun being driven prior to the collision. Anyone who can help police should call 101 and quote log number 964 of November 20.
