Man remains in serious condition after city shooting as police appeal for witnesses

A man is in serious condition following a shooting on Evington Road[1] earlier this week. Officers were called to the road at 11.21pm on Wednesday, November 22, following reports of two men being shot as they walked close to the junction with Chepstow Road. Both of the men remain in hospital at this time – one in serious condition and the other with injries not deemed life-threatening or life-changing, Leicestershire Police[2] said.

A wide cordon around the scene has since been lifted and an investigation remains ongoing but no arrests have been made to far. Detectives are now looking for three people who they said were close to the incident as it happened, as well as a driver passing by at around the time of the shooting after a number of “extensive” enquiries. The three people were standing on the corner of Evington Road and Chepstow Road and were seen running into a nearby shop at the time the shots were fired.

The driver, believed to be in a white Audi, passed another vehicle at the scene and officers are hoping they may have dashcam footage which may aid the investigation. Detective Inspector Hazel Sandall, from the Complex Investigation Unit, said: “Our investigation into this incident is progressing and the dedicated team of officers and staff working on this case continue to view local CCTV and speak to those who live and work in the area. Specialist officers are supporting the families of those involved.

“From the extensive enquiries we have completed so far, we have identified three people who were standing on the corner of Evington Road and Chepstow Road at the time the shots were fired and are seen to run from the scene into a store nearby. “These people may well have crucial information about the incident so I would urge them to make contact and pass on what they saw or heard. I am keen to stress these people are potential witnesses and are not believed to be involved in the incident.

Should they be concerned about speaking to us, they can pass on information via Crimestoppers if they wish. “I am also keen to speak to the driver of a white saloon vehicle which is seen to drive along Evington Road city bound towards Chepstow Road. This Audi passes another vehicle travelling past the scene of the incident at 11.19pm when the shots were fired.

Again, the driver of this vehicle may have information – or even dashcam footage – which could be of assistance to our enquiries. “We remain committed to carrying out a full and thorough investigation into this incident and local officers continue to provide reassurance patrols in the local community to address any concerns people who live, work or visit the area may have. “It is not too late for anyone who has not as yet contacted police to get in touch.

If you were traveling through the Evington Road area this time, please check your dashcam for anything we may be related. If you have CCTV or a doorbell camera, again please check if you have captured something of assistance to the investigation. “It is important that any information you may have, no matter how significant it may seem to you, you please pass on.”

If you were one of the witnesses or have any other information, you are being asked to contact Leicestershire Police via 101 or the police’s website and quoting incident number 23*723469.

Alternatively, you can pass on information anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
