Markethill crash: Man dies and eight people in hospital after four vehicle collision
A man has died and eight people are in hospital after a four vehicle crash overnight. Emergency services[1] were called to the Gosford Road in Markethill, Co Armagh[2], at around 1.20am on Saturday, November 4, following reports of the collision involving four vehicles. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service sent nine emergency crews, an advanced paramedic, five ambulance officers and a doctor to the scene.
On Saturday morning police confirmed a man had died in the collision and eight people were in hospital. Further details have not been released and the road remains closed at this time. A PSNI spokeswoman[5] said: “Police can confirm that a man has died following a four vehicle road traffic collision on Gosford Road in Markethill at approximately 1.20am this morning, Saturday 4th November.
Eight people have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries. “Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage that could assist enquiries, is asked to contact police at Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference 104 of 04/11/23. The road remains closed at this time and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route for their journey.”
In an earlier statement, a spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 01:20 on Saturday 4 November following reports of a multi vehicle RTC on Gosford Road. “NIAS despatched 9 Emergency Crews, an Advanced Paramedic, 5 Ambulance Officers and a Doctor to the incident. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, 8 patients were taken Craigavon Area Hospital and RVH in Belfast.”
