Met Office shares exactly where it’ll snow this week in
The Met Office is forecasting snow for the UK amid a wintry weather blast – with temperatures set to drop to as low[1] as MINUS 8C. Snow flurries and sleet in places are anticipated by forecasters with figures potentially falling as low as -8C over the coming days, the Met Office has said. Snow will be seen by the “middle of the week”[2] as it becomes “increasingly unsettled”, with wintry weather “starting to move in”.
5cm could fall in parts of north west England, Wales and Scotland. And the mercury could fall as low as -8C in the far north of England and rural Scotland. The Met Office has warned of a “potential snow event”. “A calmer and colder spell to come on Tuesday.
Some cloud to start, which will clear through the morning, leaving a cold, dry and sunny afternoon,” the Met Office forecast for Tuesday November 28 currently reads on its website.
“A frosty start on Wednesday, with some mist and fog, then largely sunny and cold. Unsettled from Thursday with showers, longer spells of rain, and possibly some hill snow,” it adds.
Outbreaks of rain and perhaps some hill snow could affect parts of southeast England on Friday before clearing to the east later in the day. Elsewhere, a mixture of sunny spells and showers, with these showers most frequent near coasts. They are likely to be wintry in places, particularly further north where some snow could fall to low levels.
Over the weekend and into the start of the following week, cold conditions are expected across the bulk of the UK. Showers will develop, these a mixture of rain, sleet and perhaps snow at times. Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said: “As we go through the middle and towards the end of next week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, we look at how the low weather front interacts with the cold air across the UK.
“At this stage is still uncertain but it could spring the risk of some rain turning to snow over the higher ground across central parts of the UK, perhaps southern parts too as well… We are keeping an eye on the potential for this area of low pressure to move in from the west and southwest.” Snow maps show accumulations across Greater Manchester and the Pennines this week, as well as swathes of Scotland.
On Thursday, it could fall across the Midlands and south – with sleet in places across West Midlands, Warwickshire[4] and mid Wales.
Devon will be hit by snow, while Northumberland, Humberside, North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire are also braced for a dusting.
