Multi-vehicle fire forces M6 closure near Stafford

The fire was on the northbound side of the M6 just after junction 14 for Stafford A van fire which spread to a car transporter forced the closure of the M6 in Staffordshire. Traffic was stopped between junction 14 for Stafford and junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent, after the fire broke out at 09:45 GMT.

It spread from the van to four other vehicles stored on a transporter lorry nearby, said the fire service. Nobody was hurt, and the fire is believed to have started accidentally. Crews were still at the scene to determine how it started, added Staffordshire Fire and Rescue.

One lane remained closed on the M6 northbound for recovery and clear-up work, said National Highways.
