Officers ‘pelted with bricks and bottles’ during ‘violent disorder’ on yob-hit Middlesbrough estate
Police officers were pelted with bricks and bottles during ‘violent disorder’ on the Middlesbrough[1] estate. Seven people were arrested after disorder broke out in the Cass House Road and Earls Court Road area of Hemlington on Sunday, November 26. Emergency services responded to a report of a fire at around 2.40am when a police vehicle was damaged and officers injuried.
An officer suffered a serious hand injury and facial injuries and he was taken to hospital. He will now undergo surgery to his hand, the force confirmed on Monday. Cleveland Police confirmed officers from the neighbourhood safety team continue to have a presence in the area to reassure members of the community.
Seven people have been arrested and bailed in connection with the investigation. Chief inspector Nigel Burnell, from Middlesbrough neighbourhood policing team, said: “We will continue to have a high visibility presence in Hemlington[2] over the coming days as we reassure our communities that this type of behaviour is not acceptable and won’t be tolerated. “Not only have some residents been left fearful as a result of what happened, but we also have an officer who suffered a serious hand injury requiring surgery and facial injuries.
Seven people have been arrested and bailed whilst and our enquiries are continuing.” Teesside Live previously reported there was a late-night smash on the estate,[3] which saw a car crash into a lamppost before being engulfed in flames. Witnesses said emergency services arrived at the scene just before midnight and a “car crashed into a pole after which it was set on fire”.
