Omani supreme court awards Rs 50 lakh compensation to Malayali girl injured in car accident

Muscat: The Supreme Court of Oman has awarded half a crore as compensation to a Malayali native who sustained severe injuries in a road accident here. Shinumol, a nurse from Kottayam, received the insurance money after a lengthy court battle with the support of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) area committee in Maabilah. The incident related to the case happened on July 8, 2021.

Shinumol, who was working in a private hospital in Ma?abilah, met with an accident barely seven months after arriving in the country. A car driven by an Omani citizen hit her while she was heading to an ATM after work. Later, the police took her to Qaboos University Hospital in Muscat.

Initially, the authorities couldn’t identify her. Fortunately, a Malayali native named Nadirsha arrived searching for her at the hospital. Later, KMCC intervened and took up the case for her.

Shinumol later returned to Kerala for further medical treatments.
