One person airlifted after three-car Welshpool crash

Emergency Services were scrambled to the A458 this morning after crash near Middletown just outside Welshpool this morning (November 27). According to Dyfed-Powys Police they were all called out early this morning after “reports of a three car collision” leading to them closing the road in both directions. A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a three vehicle road traffic collision on the A458 between Middletown and Welshpool this morning, November 27 at approximately 7:35am.

“Officers are in attendance with the Ambulance and Fire and Rescue Services. The road has been closed to allow for the incident to be handled safely.” OTHER NEWS:

According to Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service the crash saw to vehicles coming together in a head on collision that was described as “high impact” leading to one person needing to be cut from their vehicle. A spokesperson for the Service said: “At 7.35am on Monday, November 27, the Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion crews were called to an incident along the A458 in Welshpool. “Crews responded to a high-impact, head-on road traffic collision involving two private motor vehicles.

Crews utilised e-draulic cutting equipment to extricate one casualty trapped inside one of the vehicles, who was then treated by Ambulance Service personnel also in attendance.” The collision appears t have been very severe and required the attendance of both the Welsh Ambulance service as well as assistance from the Wales Air Ambulance – leading to one patient being airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for critical care. A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today (Nov 27), at approximately 7:33am, to reports of a road traffic collision near Middletown. “We sent two emergency ambulances, one duty operational manager and an advanced paramedic practitioner to the scene where advanced critical care support was delivered by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service in a Wales Air Ambulance charity helicopter. “We conveyed two patients by road to the Royal Shrewsbury hospital the Royal Stoke university hospital for further treatment.”

As of 1pm the road remained closed.
