Pedestrian critically injured after being struck by RideKC bus on Kansas City’s East Side

A pedestrian, who reportedly ran out into the road, was critically injured when a RideKC bus[1] struck the person on Kansas City’s East Side, a police spokesman said. The crash occurred about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday as the bus was headed west on Winner Road near Wallace Avenue[2], said Capt.

Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department[3]. The bus was in the right lane of Winner while an SUV was in a left lane. The pedestrian, who was not crossing at an intersection, was running from the south side to the north side of Winner, Carlisle said.

The pedestrian crossed in front of the SUV first. As the person ran into the bus’ path, the bus struck the pedestrian. During the crash, the pedestrian hit the bus’ windshield and then fell to the pavement, Carlisle said.

The bus driver told police that they didn’t see the pedestrian until it was too late.

The pedestrian, who police believe was impaired, was taken to a hospital for treatment of critical injuries, he said.

The bus’ driver and passengers were not injured in the crash, which occurred about 20 minutes after sunset in Kansas City.
