West Yorkshire Police have revealed the reasons behind their presence in a major Skelmanthorpe road. West Yorkshire Police closed off Cumberworth Road in Skelmanthorpe[1] on Thursday (November 23) afternoon. A number of police cars were seen at the location.

Now, the police have revealed they were on the road amid reports of drivers being seen on it, despite it being closed for ongoing waterworks. Police have said they were on the road to ensure the safety of both residents and drivers. West Yorkshire Police[3] said: "Police attended on Cumberworth Road, Skelmanthorpe on Thursday afternoon (23/11) following reports drivers had been seen driving on a road which had been closed due to ongoing water works.

"Officers attended to enforce the closure to ensure resident and driver safety. Additional road closure signage was requested."
