Police give major update on sudden death at high rise flats
Canberra Towers on the day of the incident (Image: Maya George, Newsquest) Police have provided a major update on their investigation into the death of a man at a high rise tower block in Southampton[1]. Officers were called at around 10.30am[2] on Saturday to the incident at Canberra Towers in Weston.
The man who died was in his 30s, leading to an outpouring of condolences[3] both online and also from residents of the tower block, with one neighbour describing the death as a tragedy[4].
Daily Echo: Part of the car park outside the block on Kingsclere Avenue was cordoned off while police gathered evidence. Since Saturday, the death has been described as ‘unexplained’[5] while they investigated the circumstances.
But last night, a spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that the incident had now been reclassified as ‘non-suspicious’.
Police will prepare a file for the coroner, who will conduct their own investigation into the man’s death.
