Police provide statement as North East cemetery cordoned off following incident
Gateshead East Cemetary. (Image: GOOGLE MAPS) Police have remained on-site at a cemetery this morning following an incident which took place in the early hours of this morning (November 25). Gateshead East Cemetery on Milivan Street, Gateshead has been under a police cordon since just after 7am this morning following welfare concerns for a person on the grounds.
Currently, the site is inaccessible to visitors and pedestrians as police have taped off entrances and much of the yard itself. Northumbria Police have issued a statement on the cordon. A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 7.35am today (Saturday) police received a report of concern for the welfare of a person within Gateshead East Cemetery on Milvain Street in Gateshead.
“Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.”
