A charge has been laid in a crash involving a tractor[1] that damaged a business and an apartment unit in Seaforth, Huron OPP said. A farm tractor hauling two trailers crashed into a building on Main Street in the community north of London at about 8 p.m. on Oct.

13. Article content The crash caused extensive damage to the structural integrity of the building that houses a business on the main floor and an apartment unit on the upper floor, police said.

The residents were home when the building was hit but they were not injured, police said. The driver also escaped injury.Emergency crews removed the tractor that was lodged in the front of the building after determining it was safe to do so. A 23-year-old Huron East resident is charged with failing to stop at a red light, careless driving and failing to remain under the Highway Traffic Act, police said.

Seaforth, with a population of about 2,500, is located in Huron County, about an hour’s drive north of London. It’s among the larger communities in an area full of tiny villages such as Dublin and Vanastra. A fire Tuesday caused about £600,000 in damage to a Ridgetown home, Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue says.

Firefighters from the Ridgetown station responded to the blaze in the home on Main Street at about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday and found heavy smoke and flames coming from both the first and second floors, the fire department said. Crews remained on scene into Wednesday morning when the blaze was brought under control and put out, the fire department said.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire had not been determined.
