Police warning amid rise in ‘counterfeit’ goods sellers in Bristol city …

Bristolians have been warned not to buy products being sold by people from carrier bags in the street. The local Bristol policing team has given the warning amid a reported rise in counterfeit goods which the force says “may not be good for your health”. Posting to social media site X, ASPolice Bristol[1] said officers had seen an increase in people trying to sell items from carrier bags in Bristol city centre[2].

A photo accompanying the post showed these products to include several varieties of designer perfumes and even a box of what claims to be Apple AirPods. Perfume brands included Chanel, Prada and Dior, as well as the pricey earphones. Counterfeit perfumes have previously been found to contain harmful chemicals and ingredients, the Journal of Trading Standards[3] reports.

AS Police Bristol wrote these items may be bad for your health, and are a “waste of money”. The warning comes ahead of the festive period and late-night shopping season[4] in the city centre, as people search for Christmas[5] presents for loved ones. The force wrote: “Please share, we are seeing an increase in people trying to sell items on the street from carrier bags in #Brist[6]ol centre, these items are counterfeit and may not be good for your health!

Please do not buy from people out of carrier bags on street, you’re wasting your money!”
