Railway tracks death near Derby takes unusual turn as police say case is ‘unexplained’
An investigation into a death on railway tracks between Derby and Chesterfield[1] has taken an unusual turn as police now say it is being treated as “unexplained”. British Transport Police officers[2] were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks at around 9.40am on Thursday, November 16. Deaths on railway tracks often tend to be treated as suicides, pending a formal decision by a coroner, but officers say “enquiries surrounding the death are ongoing”.
A police spokesman said: “Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an unexplained death on the railway. Officers attended alongside paramedics and Derbyshire police[3], however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Our enquiries surrounding the death are ongoing.”
