Recap: M56 updates as crash causes long delays

There was heavy traffic on the M56 this evening after a rush-hour crash. The smash happened between junction 11 for the A56 Chester Road and junction 12 for Runcorn at around 5.15pm and caused major issues. Two lanes were closed westbound after the crash around 17.22.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix said: “Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M56 Westbound from J11 A56 Chester Road (Preston Brook) to J12 A557 (Runcorn).” The collision came just 30 minutes after another crash further south, with major delays between junction 17 for Crewe and junction 18 for Holmes Chapel. Traffic camera images showed two cars and an HGV at the scene of the accident.

Further up the M6, cameras showed traffic backed up bumper to bumper.
